If the resistivity of an alloy is $\rho'$ and that of its constituent metal is $\rho$, state the relation between them.
✅ Answer & Solution
$\rho' > \rho$
Resistivity of an alloy is greater than that of its constituent metals. Different atoms in the alloy cause lattice distortions, increasing electron scattering and reducing $\tau$. Since:
$$\rho = \frac{m}{ne^2\tau}$$
smaller $\tau$ means larger $\rho'$.
