🌍State (Nation) = political organisation with authority to govern a defined territory & its population
⚙️Government = group of people who RUN the country — changes with elections. The state is permanent!
💡Think of it: India (the state) is permanent. The current government (Modi govt / next govt) changes every 5 years!
4 Parts of a State
👥People — permanent population living there
🗺️Land — fixed, defined territory with clear borders
⚙️Government — system to make & implement laws
🔱Sovereignty — full power, no external control
3 Functions of Govt

🗳️ Democracy vs Republic — Key Differences
↑ Back to Top
🗳️ Democracy
→Rule of the people — power comes from citizens
→Direct: everyone votes on every issue (ancient Athens)
→Representative: elect MPs/MLAs who vote on your behalf
🏛️ Republic
→Head of state is elected — not a hereditary king!
→India's President = elected (indirectly) by Parliament & state assemblies
→No royal family decides who leads — citizens do!
💡 India is a Democratic Republic!
India is both a Democracy (people choose their representatives through elections) AND a Republic (the head of state — the President — is elected, not a king).
Preamble says: "We, THE PEOPLE of India... constitute India into a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic Republic..." 🇮🇳
