👑 Monarchy

Ruled by a king — power passes through family
Most Mahajanapadas were monarchies
Example: Magadha, Kosala

🗳️ Republic (Gana-Sangha)

Ruled by an elected assembly of clan members
One of earliest forms of democracy!
Example: Vajji, Licchavi
🌟 Remember! Gana-Sangha = ancient Indian republics where leaders were chosen (not inherited)

Arthashastra = famous book by Kautilya (Chanakya) on governance, economics & statecraft — written ~4th century BCE
