Case Study (Charged particles): Particle 1 (mass $m$, charge $-q$, KE $K_1$) and particle 2 (mass $\frac{m}{2}$, charge $+2q$, KE $K_2$). Q (OR part b): If the momenta of particles 1 and 2 are $p_1$ and $p_2$, then:
✅ Answer & Solution
Momentum in terms of kinetic energy: $$p = \sqrt{2mK}$$ For particle 1: $K_1 = qV$, mass $m$: $$p_1 = \sqrt{2m(qV)} = \sqrt{2mqV}$$ For particle 2: $K_2 = 2qV$, mass $\frac{m}{2}$: $$p_2 = \sqrt{2\cdot\frac{m}{2}\cdot(2qV)} = \sqrt{2mqV}$$ Therefore $$p_1 = p_2$$ Hence the correct option is (B).
