Monthly income of citizens (in Rs.)
Country A : I = 9,500 ; II = 10,500 ; III = 9,800 ; IV = 1,000 ; V = 10,200
Country B : I = 500 ; II = 500 ; III = 500 ; IV = 500 ; V = 4,800
Identify the average monthly income of citizens in 'country A'.
✅ Answer & Solution
Step 1 - Write the formula for average income (per capita income) :
$$\text{Average Income} = \frac{\text{Total Income}}{\text{Total Population}}$$
Step 2 - Add the incomes of the five citizens of Country A :
$$9500 + 10500 + 9800 + 1000 + 10200 = 41000$$
Step 3 - Divide by the number of citizens (5) :
$$\text{Average Income} = \frac{41000}{5} = 8200$$
Step 4 - Note : although the average is high, one citizen earns only Rs. 1,000. This shows that average income hides disparities in distribution.
