1. Law to regulate internal affairs: A law should be made to regulate the internal affairs of political parties - it should be made compulsory for parties to maintain a register of their members, to follow their own constitution, to have an independent authority to act as a judge in case of party disputes, and to hold open elections to the highest posts. 2. Representation of women: It should be made mandatory for political parties to give a minimum number of tickets, about one-third, to women candidates, and there should be a quota for women in the decision-making bodies of the party. 3. State funding of elections: There should be state funding of elections - the government should give parties money to support their election expenses, either in kind (petrol, paper, telephone) or in cash on the basis of the votes secured by the party in the last election. 4. Pressure from people: People can put pressure on political parties through petitions, publicity and agitations; ordinary citizens, pressure groups, movements and the media can play an important role in reforming the parties, and those who wish to reform should join politics.
